Indigo Shibori
2-day Adult class
Learn the fundamentals of Japanese Shibori.
I’ll walk you through the thoughtful and intentional actions of bind & resisting techniques. In this workshop we will be folding, stitching, clamping, and tying to compress the textiles for dying in order to reveal beautiful patterns. We will practice these different shape resisting techniques on fabric swatches and a face mask before moving onto hand towels.
On the last day you are welcome to bring a personal item to dye. Avoid bulky items, space is limited to the vat size. Item needs to be a natural fiber in order for it to accept the dye properly. 100% cotton, silk, linen, and wool work best.
Indigo is a fascinating dye. Watch your items transform from white to green then blue from oxidation. Remember your science class. Your teacher would be so proud.
You will leave this workshop with beautifully patterned textiles made by your own hands. Perfect for your home or give them as gifts. Who doesn’t love a handmade gift, but I know you’ll want to make more for yourself.

We will be outside for the majority of this workshop. Please wear clothing that you don’t mind if gets accidentally dyed. Masks are required when social distancing isn’t an option.
